GO THE ROAD 03:25
GO THE ROAD The air is sweet, springtime is waiting Your eye is drawn where the road stretches far All your life you’ve been searching for something You couldn’t find in your own back yard Shake off the cloak of expectations Your shackles broken; the world’s at your feet Cast off the yoke of so-called convention You stand on the threshold of life, fast and free Between the streams and tree-lined fences Lighten your pack of life’s weary load Follow the dreams of kings and princes Nothing to stop you, you’re all on your , so go the road...go the road There’s song in the trees, and every sweet meadow You feel the music, your blood sings with wine Move like a breeze, in warm rays of summer Live while the blossom clings firm to the vine The wind turns chill, with cold winter’s coming You tramp the "long acre", your bones stiff and cold These last bitter dregs have called home to haunt you We’ll all pay a piper, when the last bell is tolled When winter steels the last leaves of autumn You’re cast about; of no fixed abode A wisp of smoke at the end of an alley You may well curse the day, when first you strayed to go the road... go the road Farewell to you, all you boys of pleasure A sad adieu, you last rolling stone You tramps and tinkers, you gypsy rovers Your ramblin’ days will soon be gone

DEATH AND TAXES Me, I'm just a simple man, made for simple things I work an honest job and try to make ends meet To make a modest living, I labour days on end And do the best just to do the best I can The bell tolls every Sunday, the faithful go to pray The sermon's ever-changing, but the story's all the same The church is made of money, still it needs more every day So you should always leave them something on the plate Everywhere there's people grinding axes And just so many things you know are true There's few things sure in life, but death and taxes And at every step the Taxman waits for you Times are getting harder, you try your very best The Taxman, he comes calling, he wants his pound of flesh The Devil takes the hindmost while the Taxman takes the rest It can put a good man's patience to the test The Hangman he's a working stiff, he draws a workman's pay He puts an end to suffering and sends you on your way He's always ever grateful, and he likes to lend a hand He always makes a killing in the end There's powder in the keg and they're striking matches And just so many things you know are true There's nothing sure in life, but death and taxes At every turn the taxman waits for you The smiling undertaker, he's dapper and refined He measures me both up and down, and says I'll be just fine He flatters me to tell me how spruced up I'll look in pine Says he always gets a chuckle with that line The Clergy takes confession, hears every word I say Offers absolution and sends me on my way To shuffle off this mortal coil and meet my stony end Delivered from the Taxman, amen The time has come to batten down the hatches And just so many things you know are true There's nothing sure in life, but death and taxes With every breath the Taxman waits for you And at every step; the Taxman waits for you At every turn the Taxman waits for you

SHINE 03:17
SHINE You, with the stars still dancing in your eyes The world has many surprises, in store for you You, may think you've got it all worked out I have my doubts You've only just begun to shine For you, it's going to be a long, hard climb And now and then you'll find, you think you're through Awe you, will get there in your own sweet time And you'll be fine You've only just begun to shine And when you shine I see the world is yours and yours alone to take And when you shine I am hopeful for the choices you'll make It's true, there's so many things I want for you I know you'll see them through, given half a chance Oh you, will get there in your own sweet time And you'll be fine You've only just begun to shine And when you shine I see the world is yours and yours alone to take And when you shine I am hopeful for the life you'll make For you, it's going to be a long, hard climb And now and then you'll find, when you think it through That you, will get there in your own sweet time And you'll be fine You've only just begun You've only just begun To shine

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE I came in with the north wind at my back At the close of the day To a small fireside Where I made my way It 's sure to be a full moon out tonight Enough to guide my way Through another dawn To another day Even rivers change and mountains crumble Given time boys, given time They rise and fall, they toss and tumble By and by, boys, by and by Where cascades of raging waters Give way to the turn of the tides And the restless spirits pass you by, in the blink of an eye I have walked the road less travelled I've sailed through troubled seas Seen the change in the wind Seen the changes in me It won't be long now winter's on the way And all my thoughts turn 'round As the nights set in And the lights burn all night long I rose up on a cold November day A frost clung to the ground My breath hung in the air Beneath a stark grey dawn With luck enough we'll see an early spring And things may turn around When the seeds take hold In the fertile ground

AS I WALK DOWN THIS ROAD As I walk down this road I see so many people cry I see sorrow and sadness too I can't see a reason why We all have our cross to bare Everybody bares their load There's people filled with so much emptiness As I walk down this road Me, I've got a destination Though it's taken its toll I've got holes in both my shoes I've got blisters on my soul Still there's something I keep searching for Down this cold and stony row I have never come this far before As I walk down this road As I walk down this road I see people smile I feel joy and gladness too See them laughing all the while And it reminds me, life is for living And lightens up my weary load That I can still believe in happiness As I walk down this road As I walk down this road

CLOSING IN ON MIDNIGHT Closing in on midnight Down to my last pull of beer Doesn't seem to be anything happening here Closing in on midnight 18 wheelers grind down the interstate Doesn't seem to be any way I can relate The more I think, the less I know The more I wish I could just let go Closing in on midnight I'm not as inspired as I'd like to be In fact, I'm just tired and lonely The more I think, the less I know The more I wish I could just let go The more I think, it's a waste of time If I could just get you on the line Closing in on midnight It's just as quiet as a tomb, I swear With a cold neon flashing; "vacancy here" Closing in on midnight Down to my last pull of beer Doesn't seem to be anything happening here Doesn't seem to be very much happening here

FOREVER ON MY MIND We’ve had some times together More smiles than I could measure You’ve been my greatest treasure, by and by Down miles of dusty highways Through the empty hours and always You are still, forever on my mind I can’t define the key It’s seldom we agree There’s just one certainty that I can find We’ve gone so many seasons Our love defying reason You are still forever on my mind And, after all the things that we’ve been through You’re still the first thing on my mind Even after times of angry words I know, you’d never mean to be unkind And after all the things that we’ve been through You’re still the first thing on my mind And even after times of angry words You know, I’d never mean to be unkind We’ll ride the tides together As light as any feather Though the skies are threatening weather, we’ll get by Through every change in fashion My never changing passion You are still forever on my mind

GOOD TIMES AHEAD There’s a storm in the distance There’s a storm in your eyes There’s a point of crumbled resistance Where the heart of things lie Like a ghost that’s been shackled Like a soul cast in chains Is the fear that keeps us, from taking chances again And the chances grow slim, still they’re chances the same And if we try real hard can we put them behind us Though angry or carelessly spoken, the words that were said? And can we run so far, that our troubles won’t find us? Leave all our worries behind us, for good times ahead Always some trouble brewing Around every next turn Although we’re standing shy of the flames We always get burned Down a path edged in sorrow Down a path edged in pain With the scars to remind us, not to look back again Leaving so much behind us, there’s still so much to gain And if we try real hard can we put them behind us Though angry or carelessly spoken, the words that were said? And can we run so far, that our troubles won’t find us? Leave all our worries behind us, for good times ahead And if we try real hard can we put them behind us Though angry or carelessly spoken, the words that were said? And if it all falls to pieces, we’ll piece it together Leave our worries behind, for good times ahead Leave our worries behind, for good times ahead

I WAS HERE 03:35
I WAS HERE Please, remember me when I am done Please, remember me to your daughters and your sons I was here I walked the road to you before your time I was here Please, remember me when I have gone away Please, remember me and all we shared in these days Hold them near I walked the road beside you for a while I was here There'll come a day that our road will part I can't say where or when So let's be happy for what time we have Until such time as then Please, remember me as one who always cared Please, remember me as one who always shared the utmost faith in you I will be grateful 'till the end of time That I was here The day will come when I'll be a memory Lost in the midst of day-to-day Until some backward little turn of phrase Calls me back again Please, remember me when I have gone my way And oh, remember please, these were the best of times, the best of days With you And remember to your daughters and your sons, that once... I was here

WINTER 03:22
WINTER When sudden fall becomes the depths of winter By shades the skies draw pale The earth lies still beneath, above is cold and bitter Where all the trees stand bare Storms that sweep across the wintery wasteland Gnashing teeth and thrashing tails As long and lonely you'll hear the cries that wail and moan Upon their lashing gales The darkest nights that lie in deep December Hold darker thoughts, like withered blooms And hopes like ice are brittle, cracked and splintered Scattered out like runes In this; the winter of my discontentment My darkest thoughts, like weathered broom In fields that sleep in dreams of waiting springtime Will I awake and find you there? Will I awake and find you there?

WHEN I PASS THIS WAY AGAIN When I was young I wasted love I had no sense to care I wandered down so many roads Finding nothing there A young man's game of restless fears A dark and lonely path I tread upon those tender hearts Not ever looking back Oh, please forgive me now if I caused you any pain I will try my level best when I pass this way again When I was young I wasted time With no thoughts of regret A young man's game; a reckless crime I'm not forgiven yet You can fool all too many folks Too much of the time I took it all for granted When so many were so kind Oh, please forgive me now if I caused you any pain I will try my level best when I pass this way again It seems the more years I live More precious life becomes And the more I feel a sorrow For the ones I may have wronged An old man's game of win or lose And foremost on my mind That when at last you think of me Don't think of me unkind Oh, please forgive me now if I caused you any pain I will try my level best when I pass this way again Oh, please forgive me now if I caused you any pain I will try my level best when I pass this way again When I pass this way again When I pass this way again
